Not all local radio presenters are the same and Jim is the difference. I came across Jim the first day he appeared on Radio Shropshire and have been a fan ever since. A genuine decent person and one who if the right thing had to be done Jim would do it. His show is monday to friday 9am - 12am on Radio Shropshire. A mixture of interviews, phone ins and music. His saturday evening show on Radio Shropshire is 6pm - 9pm and is an eclectic mix of music - a good time show. Jim is a regular contributor to twitter.
Jim Hawkins began in radio on the university radio station at University of Warwick. He presented on local independent station Mercia Sound before joining the BBC in 1984, when he wrote and presented News Stand for BBC Radio 4. Before BBC Radio Shropshire he worked in BBC Local Radio and commercial stations across the country as presenter, journalist, consultant, producer and manager in Brighton, Northampton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne/Gateshead and elsewhere.
Jim won the 2002 silver Sony Award for The Baldy Brothers, his drive time programme at Century FM, and has been "highly commended" at the BT Regional News and Current Affairs awards. He was one of five nominees for Speech Presenter of the Year in the 2006 Sony Awards.
JIM HAWKINS is appearing in TRAMLINES as himself. Below are a few photos of Jim.
