It's love, isn't it? Even when it shouldn't be and both deny it is. But whichever way you look at it, it just might be. Watching Bees is being written for Julie Fernandez and Richard Davies.
The inspiration for Watching Bees came from a conversation Lynne had with Richard Davies ( Glen in Tramlines ) a few months ago. We had both found dead bees in water buckets and troughs and Richard had talked about how the more intelligent of bees drank from water between cobble stones and how he watches them trying to find a safe place to drink.
...However Watching Bees is not about the vagaries of thirsty insects, it is a love story - and not of the sugary stereotypical type but of the realities of love, of the freedom it gives and the possibilities it takes.
Julie Fernandez (Sammi) appeared memorably as Brenda in BBC's The Office. She has appeared in a production of The Vagina Monologues and was Vanessa Lockhead in the BBC's El Dorado, she has appeared in numerous productions and is also known as a TV presenter. Julie is a speaker and commentator on disability issues, cutting through all bull shit and political correctness with a steam roller. She is one of the leading voices on disability issues. Richard Davies (Mike) is a new intake to Livid Film and is fast becoming a big part of the company. We've cast him as the twitchy eyed caffeine addicted Glen in Tramlines, as the wood sprite in Jack and now as the uncertain in love Mike in Watching Bees. Musical theatre and opera were Richard's original forays in the arts, but his ability to take on quite a demanding role and run with it has impressed us all. Some of Richard's opera prowess will be seen in the film.
For four years Richard was also asked to contribute topical sketches on a weekly basis to Beacon Radio, writing comedic skectches against the clock about news stories - and then having to deliver them the next morning live on air.
